Therapy For Anxiety & Perfectionism

We’re here to restore your confidence!

My mischievous mind

If you feel like your mind is a mischievous little toddler that doesn’t seem to respond to “No!,” Stop!,” “Aht, Aht!,” or “Don’t do that!”

You’re in the right place.

You may have been feeling like your mind is constantly cooking up trouble, and you’ve been desperate to turn it off. It can be exhausting to experience racing thoughts that seem never-ending, and your attempts to stop them feel fruitless.

Anxiety has made your life feel like total chaos.

Loki would be proud.

You may be living your life in fear of others' negative judgments, and even when no one has said anything, your trusty mind does a great job of reminding you of how incompetent, stupid, worthless, and selfish you are.

That you will never be good enough.

Your mind may also be quite good at replaying every event that has ever gone badly. There’s a late-night show of bloopers every night as you attempt to sleep.

You’re always overwhelmed, waiting for the “other shoe to drop.”

You’re finding that you can’t concentrate at work or in school, and in high-pressure moments when you need your mind to cooperate, it goes blank (You may have wondered whether your printer has picked up on that because it also doesn’t seem to work in those same moments…*gives printer the side-eye*).

You push for perfection in everything you do.

It’s probably paid off in a lot of ways, except those times when:

  • you felt burnt out

  • completely neglected self-care

  • your relationships suffered or were non-existent

  • you missed important deadlines or lucrative opportunities

  • you cried yourself to sleep (or didn’t sleep at all)

  • you pushed your body’s limits so much you ended up in the hospital

  • you begrudgingly said yes to a request you definitely should’ve declined

  • you felt completely miserable even when things worked out…

Wait, maybe it isn’t paying off as much as you thought…

Anyway…

Have you tried turning your mind off and turning it back on again?

Yeah, that’s not a thing.

BUTtherapy is a thing…and it can help you learn to live a life led by your values, instead of one controlled by your anxiety.

So what might that look like?

  • As much as you may wish to be rid of anxiety forever, it’s actually more advantageous to learn how to manage it and keep on living despite its presence, in spite of it - that’s what we’ll be doing in therapy.

We’ll identify how YOU want your life to look and what’s standing in the way. I’ll help you navigate making the necessary changes to get there.

  • I use techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an approach that involves the practice of mindfulness and acceptance, as well as engaging in behaviors that promote building a life in accordance with what one values most.

My approach to treating this concern typically involves behavioral change, meaning I will be asking you to regularly step outside of your comfort zone (one baby step at a time) by taking appropriate risks so you may begin building new habits.

We will practice this in session in various ways (this helps you get the hang of it), and I will ask you to practice this outside of our meeting time as well (your everyday life is where it will really count).

Depending on the client, I may also use expressive arts or cognitive-behavioral (CBT) techniques. I enjoy humor and sharing an occasional laugh is not uncommon in sessions.

It can be challenging, but we can get you moving forward!
